Mataverde Premium Hardwood Decking has added a new species to its hardwood decking offerings - Cambara hardwood. Cambara is a light to medium reddish brown colored South American hardwood that looks similar to genuine mahogany. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to work with Cambara and have found it be a good specification for many projects. For a tropical hardwood, we were very surprised to see just how consistent the color and graining range is for the Cambara species. The low initial price of Cambara makes it an attractive decking material option for a number of different types of projects.Mataverde Premium Cambara Hardwood decking is sustainably harvested using only the Erisma uncinatum species. This Cambara species shows lots of consistency, especially in color, graining and performance. Cambara is rated as resistant to dry wood borers, moderately resistant to fungi and suscepticle to termites. Cambara is an excellent option for covered porches, covered decks, verandas and three season rooms. Since Cambara is a medium density hardwood and has some porosity, it is stainable, sealable and paintable with appropriate coatings and sealers. Using an exterior stain allows the rich graining to show through.
Physical and Mechanical Properties of Cambara hardwood include:
- Janka hardness of 860 (about 10% harder than genuine mahogany)
- Fiber bending strength of 13,080 (about 12% stronger than mahogany)
