Have You Ever Seen Garapa Decking at a Basketball Court?

Well, they say ‘there’s a first time for everything’.  You can chalk this hardwood deck project up in that category. Garapa decking at an outdoor basketball court? Sounds crazy, right? Not really. When you look at the design and workmanship on this unique project, you’ll understand how it makes perfect sense.

The deck design itself was very challenging. To meet the grading requirements, a 'sunken basketball court' design was developed. To get started, they had to excavate and terrace the entire area. Retaining walls were added. Next, they installed proper drainage throughout. Proper drainage beneath low-clearance decks is a necessity for wood decking to perform well.

Garapa hardwood decking was selected for this project. Why Garapa? Mostly because it performs so well, lasts so long and looks so good. The first Garapa hardwood deck was installed right outside the lower level doors. From this deck, two sets of hardwood stairs rise to access other areas of the grounds.  An additional level of hardwood deck steps up to reach the basketball court.

The workmanship, performed by the capable team at TAGcrete, was excellent. TAGcrete has lots of expertise in commercial and residential projects ranging from excavation, retaining walls, patios, stamped concrete, hardwood decks, fire pits and outdoor kitchens.

Hardwood retaining walls, complete with Garapa cap rails, surround the court. A built-in storage area for balls and equipment was also fashioned using hardwood. For a sealer, Penofin oil finish provides initial protection for the hardwoods and looks great.
