When we were house hunting, we were shown a property on a gorgeous lake at a phenomenal price that met all our home needs. There was only one catch: it was ugly. Or, in realtor parlance, it “lacked curb appeal.” Thank goodness there was a modern solution, and a beautiful one.
Pura NFC® by Trespa Romantic Walnut decor gives lakefront home a modern exterior that blends into it's wooded surroundings.
Built in the early ’70s and labeled “contemporary,” the lake house seemed to be trying desperately to be 'Philip Johnson' but instead looked more like 'Johnson & Johnson' – with weathered clapboard siding and a color scheme vaguely reminiscent of a row of boxes at a warehouse store. It was a stark reminder of why so many design historians consider the 1970s “the decade that taste forgot.”
But oh, that lake … and oh, that price.

Not so eager to write off the pluses and concede to the minuses, my husband and I found Mataverde Premium Decking and Siding, who we’d worked with on a previous deck project, to see if there was anything we could do short of razing the house and starting again. As it turns out, there was plenty!
Our Mataverde team introduced us to Pura NFC® by Trespa sidings and, to make a long story short, it was a game changer! Turns out there are lots of folks just like us out there, who love some aspects of modern style – like dramatic features and geometric elements – but prefer to incorporate today’s airy colors, natural surroundings and minimalism. It is easily incorporated into a renovation, like us, or designed into a new home.

Right away, we were warned not to balk at the word “siding” … this was not the old-fashioned aluminum or vinyl cladding that was popular back when this home was built. Pura NFC® by Trespa siding is a High Pressure Laminate (HPL) that is attractive, durable, and green – made from up to 70% natural fibers sourced from sustainable forests.
Pura siding is a premium engineered wood, it is incredibly solid and sturdy, and requires very little maintenance. No pre-finishing, refinishing or repainting is necessary during its lifetime. It even carries a 10-year guarantee for product performance and color stability from Mataverde.

Best of all, they provide the warm look of wood siding without the grain and color variations, and can be installed either vertically or horizontally, creating a flush profile that won’t collect dirt in the seams.

Available in wood décor color options that look remarkably like real stained wood, we were able to choose the shade that best complemented our natural surroundings – in our case, we opted for Mystic Cedar for the primary tone since the lakefront property was surrounded by several of these trees.

Contrasted with Aged Ash, the colors were both warm and soothing to come home to after a snowfall, yet cool and inviting on a hot summer day. The home’s clean look and appearance fit perfectly with its modern style, giving it a sleek, fashionable feel – and making our throwback 1970s house a modern-day oasis.
