New building code requirements are driving the need for more fire-resistant wood decking options

Many of the international building code requirements for flame resistance are stricter than ever. These agencies include the International Residential Code (IRC), International Building Code (IBC) and the International Code Council (ICC) and others. The main difference with the new codes, is that an additional 20 minutes of flame resistance and smoke density is required.

What are my fire retardant treated wood decking options?

Mataverde Thermawood FR (Flame Retardant Treated) decking is now available in C+ Better Grade Hem Fir wood.  Thermally modified Hem Fir decking is beautiful, and it performs great. The unique vacuum kiln thermal modification process makes the wood harder, stronger, more durable, more flexible and more stable. That’s because the pressure in the vacuum kiln allows the wood to be thermally modified at lower temperatures. This high pressure / low temperature combination is more beneficial to the wood.
