In the realm of modern architectural design, rooftops are being transformed from neglected spaces into exquisite outdoor havens. Architects are constantly seeking sustainable solutions that not only elevate the aesthetics of rooftop spaces but also provide durability and longevity. Among the many choices available, FSC® Ipe wood decking and the Eurotec Rooftop Deck System emerge as game-changers.

"Choosing the Eurotec Rooftop Decking System and FSC Ipe wood isn't just a decision about building materials; it's a testament to an architect's commitment to quality, aesthetics, and sustainability."
As architects continue to reshape urban landscapes, the Eurotec Rooftop Decking System and FSC® Ipe wood emerge as an exceptional combination that embodies both innovation and tradition.
The Eurotec system's intelligent design empower architects to craft captivating rooftop decks that seamlessly blend style and substance. Paired with the elegance and durability of Ipe wood, these decks become lasting masterpieces that enrich the lives of those who enjoy them.
In 2020, the architects at CollinsWoerman expertly combined Ipe wood decking with the Eurotec Rooftop Deck System for Kirkland Urban in the Greater Seattle area. We featured the first rooftop deck project here.
Kirkland Urban is part of a downtown revitalization in the Greater Seattle, Washington area. The mixed-use complex is anchored by tech company offices, upscale residences, and large public spaces. The Kirkland Urban website says it is designed to be a "a vibrant extension of Downtown Kirkland, bringing together a collection of neighborhood services, shops, restaurants, and a large public plaza...walking distance to the waterfront".
An urban revitalization of this caliber requires a welcoming, luxurious decking material that can easily handle high commercial foot traffic, strong UV exposure, and the Washington State climate for long-lasting beauty.
Now, Kirkland Urban is expanding. The owners were very satisfied with the results of the first Ipe rooftop deck. They asked the architects at CollinsWoerman to make that magic all over again at the newest building.

This photo (above) of a customer's Ipe custom deck was taken 10 years after installation. Its easy to see how well the Ipe decking, railings, and built in features have lasted - with the minimum required maintenance.
Ipe wood is a workhorse of a decking material that can handle constant wear and tear, stay attractive, and still have low maintenance needs.
Ipe hardwood is especially suited to rooftop decks since it can handle changing temperatures, moisture, strong UV, and harsh climates with grace.
Ipe wood's natural oils and high fiber density density make it extremely resistant to rot, decay, and insect infestations, ensuring the deck's longevity even in challenging weather conditions. This durability aligns perfectly with the longevity goals of architectural projects and offers property owners a sound investment.

Low Maintenance Beauty
The Ipe wood decking color range, shown here with Penofin Hardwood Penetrating Oil Finish with UV protectant applied.
Ipe decking has very low maintenance requirements, allowing property owners to enjoy the beauty of their rooftop decks without being burdened by extensive upkeep.
Ipe's gorgeous light-brown to medium-brown color range, exotic grain patterns, and figuring make it a visual showstopper.
That gorgeous Ipe wood color can be kept original with cleaning and reapplication of an oil based UV protectant as needed. Since it is very high density, paint or stain is not required.
Or it can be allowed to weather to a natural silver-gray patina. You might be surprised to learn that weathered FSC Ipe stays stable and keeps its resistant characteristics but required less maintenance. Just cleaning as needed.

Eurotec Rooftop Deck System is a Marvel of Modern Engineering
Architects have long wrestled with the challenges of creating beautiful yet structurally sound rooftop decks. The Eurotec Rooftop Decking System addresses these challenges with finesse, presenting a revolutionary solution.
The rooftop deck system you choose is the backbone for your deck projects, be it on rooftops, terraces, or balconies. Eurotec has an innovative modular design that simplifies installation, providing architects with a flexible and efficient approach.
The Eurotec system helps you accomplish this with components that saves time and labor by evenly distributing weight, will work with uneven rooftops, offers simple leveling, and faster installation.
Key Advantage To Designing With Eurotec
A key advantage of the Eurotec rooftop deck system lies in its ability to distribute weight evenly, thus alleviating the strain on the building's structure. This not only enhances safety but also expands the possibilities for rooftop deck design.
A simple adjustment to the roof deck pedestals allows the deck system to adjust to changes in the rooftop height. Eurotec pedestals also let you work around any height changes and obstacles on the rooftop, keeping the deck all one level as designed.
This gives a range of customizable options. Architects can unleash their creativity and design spaces that harmonize with their vision.
